Official Council Edicts - New School Rules

Whenever the RSA’s Governing Council makes any major change to how the academy runs, the new policy which has been voted into place is summarized into an “Official Edict.” All previous edicts declared by the Council are thus recorded and made available to the public below. For more information on the academy’s governing body, please visit our ABOUT page.

       Edict 1 - April 4, 2017

The fourth of April each year will be designated as “Saber-Day” in celebration of the first successful duel facilitated through the RSA’s Duel Finder System, the dueling saber community, and the combat saber itself. The RSA will provide the public with suggestions on how the day can be celebrated, and will engage with the community to promote the world-wide observance of the event.

       Edict 2 - April 4, 2017

In addition to the RSA’s Help pages, each student will be granted access to a personalized program referred to as their personal robot: “R2-B9.” Links to R2-B9’s commentary and aid on various aspects of the academy will be placed throughout the text of the site in strategic locations.

       Edict 3 - April 4, 2017

The term “Battosai” has been removed from the RSA’s School Motto, “The Rogue Way,” for the sake of clarity, and replaced with the term “swordsmen.” Likewise the phrase “We see the harmony in all” has been updated to “We seek harmony and growth.”

       Edict 4 - April 8, 2017

The designation of “ADMIN” will either replace or be added to the Code-Name (username) of any account on the site belonging to (or run by) any administrator of the academy. Any user claiming to be an administrator without authorization from the Governing Council will either have their Code-Name altered or their student account terminated.

       Edict 5 - April 8, 2017

Only students with membership in one of the academy’s three dueling clans will be permitted to invite others to, or participate in, “Clan War Duels.” Only Clan members will be able to personally invite others to City Area Tournaments. Students with a reputation score below 10% will no longer be able to create any event or invite others to an event.

       Edict 6 - April 8, 2017

Only students who have paid the membership fees of a clan will now have access to that clan’s portal page, and only that clan’s portal, with one exception. The Academic Administrator of the site will be granted access to all clan portal pages.

       Edict 7 – May 6, 2017

Students may no longer artificially raise their reputation score through purchase or advancement. The only way for a student’s reputation score to increase will be through the positive feedback of others via the follow-up form from a specific event in which the student in question participated.

       Edict 8 - May 6, 2017

Students will now have the ability to cancel any spars, duels or tournaments they create within a reasonable time frame. Other students who have been invited to a canceled event, or who have officially declared their intention to participate in a canceled event, will receive a notification of its cancellation.

       Edict 9 – May 13, 2017

The RSA’s official Rules for the Sport of Saber Dueling have been modified to include rules against backing opponents into obstacles, allowances for diverse blade tips, and the use of saber-staffs. It is now republished as “Edition: 2.0,” a modified version of the first, and priority now must always be given to the latest edition. This edition is now the standard for participants to follow in all of the RSA’s sparring, dueling and tournament events.

       Edict 10 - May 27, 2017

Although Duel Credits are earned mostly through level advancement and by claiming victory from a duel, the RSA will allow students to purchase Duel Credits with United States Dollars. In addition, Duel Credits may be won, exchanged between students and used to purchase digital items via a Duel Credit Store.

       Edict 11 - June 10, 2017

Students will now be able to earn “Community Patches” that represent a token of recognition from a saber-smith, another Saber Academy, the organizers of an event, or some other community member. These accolades can denote accomplishments within the academy or accomplishments without. They are distinguished from Challenge Badges and do not affect a student’s path to knighthood within the RSA.

       Edict 12 - June 10, 2017

Access to the RSA’s originally created lore including “The Legend of Hikari-Kin” will be restricted from the public and will no longer be available to the general student body of the academy. In addition, the RSA’s official history and mission statements will be relocated from the school’s archives to the school’s “About” page.

       Edict 13 - June 24, 2017

The completion of a “Quest,” a standardized charitable act of service on behalf of the Rogue Order, will be required of a student for each and every challenge badge earned.

       Edict 14 - July 7, 2017

The Rogue Saber Academy’s site will now officially be launched (as of 7/7/2017) and opened to Beta Testers from the general public!

       Edict 15 - September 5, 2017

The RSA’s official Rules for the Sport of Saber Dueling have been modified to include rules allowing for strikes to the head, given that both duelists agree to the use of helmets. The rules have also been adjusted for wider usage outside of the RSA. The qualifications of a judge were set forth. Minor specifications on other rules have also been added. These rules have now been republished as “Edition: 2.5,” a modification of the previous version, and priority now must always be given to the latest edition. This edition is now the standard for participants to follow in all of the RSA’s sparring, dueling and tournament events.

       Edict 16 - November 6, 2017

The Governing Council has agreed to make auxiliary “bonus lessons” available to students via purchase through the Duel Credit Store in order to share rare and advanced techniques that are not taught in the standard lessons of FORM 1.

       Edict 17 - November 7, 2017

The RSA’s official Rules for the Sport of Combat Lightsaber Dueling, along with the RSA’s official Safety Standards have received needed modifications and updates, leading to the release of both combined, for the first time, in a single PDF file as “Edition: 2.7” in order to better communicate the importance of following both documents together, as a whole set of instructions. Some notable changes from previous editions of the rules is the banning of all stabbing techniques when body armor is not worn by both duelists. Greater clarification on where a match can take place has been added. The use of eye protection is no longer mandatory, but strongly encouraged, along with the use of a mouth guard. The use of a coin-toss as a solution to disagreements has been inserted into the rules as well. The wording of much of the Safety Standards has also been adjusted in order to be more concise.

       Edict 18 - March 15, 2018

In order to prevent one student from harassing another with an inordinate number of invitations each month, a limit of one spar invitation (or duel challenge) to one particular student per month had been in effect. That limit has been raised to ten per month, in light of the common occurrence in which two students may not be in traveling distance to any others.

Bonus Lessons: The Force

Where Fantasy Meets Philosophy

You’ve found one of the many hidden gems and “Easter-eggs” of our school’s website! Here you will find a small collection of links to videos on the philosophical inspirations for the living force, as found in the Star Wars Universe. These videos and lessons are shared for casual academic purposes, and are not at all required in your path to Knighthood. They do not contribute, nor detract from, your official progress in our school. (Note: the RSA does not own these videos, but shares them in partnership with the content creators featured below.) We hope you enjoy them and learn a thing or two about world philosophies, both real and fictional!
